Youthdale is unique in providing an eight-week summer camp program for all participants in its city and rural treatment residences.

The camp, set on a scenic wooded property with a large private lake near Magnetawan, approximately 400 km north of Toronto is, in many respects, just like any other summer camp.

Children live in cabins and eat in a central dining hall, and activities include team sports and games, water sports, drama, and arts and crafts. There are campfires, canoe trips, camp-outs, and weekly trips into town. On Visitors’ Day, families are welcome to join their children in the camp experience.

Treatment is integral to the summer camp program. Children and staff work together to set goals for the summer before camp begins. At camp there are regular group meetings, and children and staff meet for individual counselling.

Residential treatment staff attend camp with the children, along with special program leaders who supervise various activities. A consulting psychiatrist visits the camp every Friday.

Camp is an opportunity for the participants to apply what they’ve learned in residence, acquire new skills, and reach their goals in a varied and enriching environment.
