Centre for Individual and Family Therapy (CIFT)

The Centre for Individual and Family Therapy (CIFT) is a team of Youthdale clinician’s dedicated to providing family therapy, individual therapy, and case management services to Youthdale clients.

A family systems approach is central to the Live-In and Day Treatment services at Youthdale. The goal is to support, maintain and/or reunite families where possible with the understanding of the importance taking an ecosystemic perspective in the context of mental health care.

Services include:

  • individual and/or family sessions focused on conflict resolution and problem solving

  • parent/guardian support

  • communication and connection between family members

  • safety planning & crisis management

  • skills development.

The clinicians from the individual and family therapy department draw flexibly on a myriad of evidence based tools and models, including Emotion Focused Family Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and the McMaster Model of Family Functioning, to inform the work that they do with clients and their family systems.

This approach allows the therapeutic experience to be tailored to the specific needs of the youth and their family. As part of the treatment planning process, goals are determined with the client and their family or guardian at admission and reviewed at regular intervals.
