Transitional Age Unit (TAU)
The Transitional Age Unit (TAU) is a voluntary psychiatric inpatient unit that provides stabilization, assessment and intensive treatment for young adults between 18 years and 23 years 11 months from Toronto. This program is designed to serve transitional age youth who have a primary mental health diagnosis with complex special needs that have not been met by services offered in less intensive settings.
Our team of psychiatrists, child and youth counsellors, social workers, nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapist work closely with the client and their support network to understand their needs, set goals for their admission, and to plan for their discharge.
Duration of admission is average 4 weeks but can go up to 6 weeks depending on clinical need. Clients must be motivated and have the capacity to participate in the voluntary program offered, including both individual and group therapy components. The program is based on a variety of measures and treatment approaches to help assess clients and implement individualized, solution-focused treatment plans. Treatment is milieu based on a trauma, DBT- and CBT-informed. Clients may also access the Youthdale on-site Day Treatment Program.
